House Building

As part of our commitment to education, we have supported a local builder, Fabien, to train young men in the practice of Rwandan house building.

The houses built as a result of this initiative are supplied to local families identified by GiFO. Many of them lost their previous houses as a result of the exceptional flooding experience in Western Rwanda in the last few years.

Houses are built from hand made red blocks. These are made from the local erath and left to dry in the sun.

The team are at work building houses. There is no running water on site, so it must be brought from the Village pump using containers, like the yellow one you see here.
